From unplugged to plugged & beyond – A day of free Computing CPD
What will the day involve?
Session 1: Unplugged
Barefoot Computing’s Jon Chippindall will explore the DfE Barefoot resources. These resources are funded by BT and are free for all schools. Jon will illustrate how unplugged computing (computing without technology) is the ideal way to develop pupils’ computational thinking skills in primary schools.
Session 2: Plugged
Code Club’s Liz Smart will build on Jon’s unplugged session illustrating the link between computational thinking and coding. Liz’s session will involve getting teachers hands-on as they code in Scratch. Liz’s session will provide ideas teachers can take away and immediately use with their pupils.
Session 3: Beyond
CAS Manchester’s Regional Coordinators, Sarah and Carol’s session will close the day by exploring a range of physical computing devices which can be used across the primary phase. Teachers will get hands-on with a range of computing kit available to loan for free from their local CAS Master Teacher.
