Study at Futureworks – Sound & Film, Games, VFX & Animation Courses

Futureworks offers a range of specialist undergraduate and professional courses, covering sound and film, games, visual effects and animation.

School of Sound and Music Production

Head of School: Rob Magoolagan

Renowned producer, live sound mixer, recording engineer and Avid Pro Tools Master Instructor credited on 140 commercial releases over the last 20 years, Rob continues to travel the globe practising his art and feeding all that experience back to our students.

About the School

The School of Sound and Music Production creates, composes, produces, mixes and masters music. It records, designs, edits, manipulates and implements sound into films, games and interactive media. We exist to provide the next generation of technically driven creatives, essential to UK world-leading media industries.

In addition to the excellent courses we provide, this school is at the heart of everything we call Futureworks. Our collaborative community consists of filmmakers, editors, game designers, artists, animators and visual effects specialists – they all need sound and music. A part of student life here is working with them to create it.

School of Film, Television and Media

Head of School: Richard Hellawell

A talented writer, director and producer who ran his own production company for 15 years prior to joining us, Richard recently finished Futureworks’ first feature film, Retribution, and is currently working on scripts for future projects.

About the School

The School of Film, Television, and Media exists to provide the UK’s world-leading media industries with the next generation of technical and theoretically creative filmmakers.

The school offers a range of programmes designed to create a community of filmmakers consisting of writers, producers, directors, camera operators, editors, visual effects and 3D artists and many more. As a Futureworks student, you have the ability to collaborate with other schools such as the School of Sound and Music to enhance your work and become the complete professional.

Central to the success of our programmes are the tutors who are experienced professionals that bring up-to-date commercial experience into the classroom. Such close ties to industry allow us to respond effectively to changing conditions within media enabling you to be an up to date employable graduate with a broad set of skills.

The School of Art and Design

Head of School: Ken Lau

Ken is an experienced educator and a mean 3D character artist and designer who joined Futureworks in 2011 straight from the games industry. He continues to model (and print!) in 3D, and is also pretty handy with a TIG welder!

About the School

The School of Art and Design offers a range of programmes designed to create employable graduates with a broad set of skills. The school provides an education in disciplines that are fundamental to design and visual creativity. We work closely with the other schools; our students seek out visual effects artists, editors and sound designers to work on collaborative projects with mutual benefits.

Central to the success of our programmes are the tutors. They are all experienced in their field of specialism and they bring up-to-date commercial experience into the classroom. These close ties mean that we are also able to respond effectively to changing conditions in the industries.

The School of Art and Design creates graduates who go on to work as games designers, level designers, 3D artists, 2D artists, 2D animators, 3D animators, storyboard artists or illustrators. We have had graduates going on to work at large established games studios like Traveller’s Tales and Sony as well as independent studios such as Hello Games, 360 Studios, Pixel Bomb, White Paper Games and Prospect Games.
