Being Human
Being Human reflects upon the poetic expression of politics and emotion, exploring themes of fate, death and celebration.
The inspiration for this body of work stemmed from poetry and through a variety of materials each artist has explored the written word in a way that is personal to them.
Poetry with all it weaves, twists of language and hidden meanings, forces us to focus our minds, to push ourselves to understand deeper.
Thinking conceptually, each artist, Thaleia Kavvada, Maddie Smith, Julie James Turner and Laura Wake have paid careful attention to the themes and ideas expressed within the writings, through a combination of textiles-installation, film, sound, sculpture and photography we hope to creatively express aspects of the human condition. Love, friendship and the paths we choose to take are explored through this exhibition- an exploration of what it means to be human, the rawness that hides behind the surface of the day to day.
