Design Mcr – DM17: Manchester’s fifth design festival, taking place in different venues, museums & galleries
2017 is a year of change. The Metro Mayor election in May triggers significant devolution of powers to the city region.
Uncertainties around international trade and free movement present challenges for the creative industries.
Manchester’s fifth design festival, from 11–22 October 2017, will celebrate change and take the challenges head on, working with our partners to showcase talent, ask questions and create opportunities for design solutions, for careers and for enterprise.
Our programme of exhibitions, workshops, films, debates, parties and other events at iconic venues around the city region will be announced in the coming months. Sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of the page to keep informed – regular updates will also appear on this page and in our Journal.
Design Manchester was created to provide the voice of design in and connected with Manchester.
We are a not-for-profit organisation running events and programmes throughout the year. Our headline activity is DM, the annual design festival for the city, which takes place every October and is now in its fourth year.
Design Manchester was established in 2013 with the support of Manchester School of Art, part of Manchester Metropolitan University, which remains a key partner. The highlight of the first festival was a day of presentations by designers from Manchester and around the world in the Town Hall. In 2014, Design Manchester linked up with the Science Festival and also attracted thousands to an exhibition of classic trainers by adidas Spezial. That year also saw our first public design debate.
