Digital Cities Manchester returns in November 2017 with a new series of inspiring events across the city

Various creative, digital and tech events to commence for Digital Cities across many venues in Manchester.

Sunday 12 November: Digital Skills Day for Young People

Manchester CoderDojo Digital Cities Special

Manchester CoderDojo is a volunteer-led community group for young people aged eight and upwards to code and be creative.

When: Sunday 12th November, 11:00 to 15:00

SharpFutures at The Sharp Project is hosting this special Digital Cities Manchester edition of Manchester CoderDojo.

Monday 13 November: Digital Skills Day

BBC Academy: Digital Skills Day

Free training including a guide to live streaming, making films on your smartphone and tips on building audiences for social media, presented by industry experts.

When: Monday 13 November, 09.30 to 16.00

Where: BBC Media City, Quay House, MediaCityUK, Salford M50 2EQ

There will be a range of workshops exploring the latest in digital content and how to tell fantastic stories across different platforms.

The workshops are suitable for both experienced professionals wanting to brush up on their digital skills and new entrants to the business. They will let you:

  • get insights into how to live-stream to both professional and social media platforms with our essential guide
  • make YouTube and Facebook work for you
  • make APPSolutely amazing content with a hands-on session using apps for creating quality short-form content
  • discover how storytelling is adapting to new digital platforms
  • build audiences for social media
  • film high-quality content on your smartphone
  • take a tech tour with the BBC Blue Room
  • get access to the Google Digital Garage and hear from experts on how to reach new audiences online

A ticket gives you access to the keynote session at the beginning of the day. We’ll ask you to choose your workshops in the morning and afternoon via the order form when you book.

BBC School Report Goes Digital: Day One

If you’re a teacher, why not take part in BBC School Report and develop your digital skills.

Digital Change Makers by School of Arts and Media

When: Thursday 16th November, 1pm to 4pm

Where: University of Salford, MediaCityUK building

Digital Change Makers promises to be an exciting day of discussions and workshops. The panel discussion, chaired by Mo Isap, Hobs Studio Manchester, will explore the application of digital technologies and future opportunities including ‘Industry 4.0’

Following this, you will be able to participate in two of the following workshops:

• Rick Murray, Creative Director of Endemol Shine North – Exploring short-form storytelling and making narratives work in 15 seconds

• MrASing, Artist and Periscope expert – Sharing the secrets on how live streaming could work for you

Saturday 18 November: LGBT+ Does Digital

Queer Media Festival 2017

After last year’s sell-out event, Queer Media Festival returns for the festival’s fourth year celebrating the amazing range of LGBT+ stories in all forms of media.

Where: HOME Cinemas, 2 Tony Wilson Place, Manchester, M15 4FN

Hear from inspiring live speakers who are creating LGBT+ stories using the new digital platforms of virtual reality, online storytelling, interactive games or mobile filmmaking. Discover who mixes digital with traditional media like theatre-making, journalism, playwriting, TV, radio and film, in their storytelling.

Enjoy a creative mix of engaging panel discussions, performances, workshops and films aiming to refresh the way that LGBT+ narratives are told and explore the queer rainbow of diverse stories.
